Mojo anyone?

This is my interpretation of the week 79 sketch at Mojo Monday. This is the first time I've actually used one of their sketches...I've looked hundreds of times...but haven't had much of a chance to actually DO one!

I bought this stamp set last month and just now got around to opening it up! I was really glad to do it though as the stamp was fun...and made the card come together pretty quickly once I settled on a paper to use! I'm the worst when it comes to selecting papers sometimes...I have been known to sit and stare for over 30 minutes at a paper combo trying to decide if it "works"...and yet there are other times I see the paper and know instantly what I want to do with it. This was one of the in-between times...but once I settled on what paper to use...the rest was easy!
There will be a new sketch tomorrow over at Mojo...so if you get the chance, I say drop by and take a peek!

Supplies:
  • Cardstock: American Crafts and CTMH
  • Paper: K&Co - Life's Journey
  • Image: Tim Holtz Collection, Stampers Anonymous - Mini-Classics
  • Sentiment: CTMH Card Kit/Just Because
  • Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Ranger - Antique Linen and Walnut Stain
  • Tim Holtz Distress embossing powder - Walnut Stain
  • Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Textile
  • Fiber: Ribbon - Ribbon Lady; Lace - Spare Parts by The Paper Studio

Yes...I have FINALLY seen it!

If you can't tell by the new music here on my page...I have completed the watching of the final season of BSG...there were near tears...some shock...amazing battle scenes...and an ending that...well...it ended as it should. I could say that I wish this or that about it...but when I sit and think on it for a few minutes...I know that it ended the way the story was meant to end. DH and I both agreed that it was the BEST TV show on television quite possibly for our lifetime...but hey...you never know what they are going to come up with next...
I doubt there will be...at least for a long time...a show that resonates so much with the world around us...and makes you think so very hard about these things...TV isn't supposed to make us THINK dang it! LOL! But BSG did that...it made you think...and it will be missed! Farewell Apollo...Starbuck...Madame President...Admiral...Tigh...Anders...Chief...Caprica 6...Baltar...the 8's, 2's and 4's...Ellen...you gave us one hell of a ride!

Happy happy happy...

WOOOHOOO! Thanks to a friend...we will FINALLY be able to watch the remaining BSG episodes we have missed! He came over yesterday to hook up some thingamabob to our TV...and showed us where online to get the episodes AND how to watch them on our TV...instead of having to crowd around the computer! Before too long today...we will be camped out in front of the TV having our "marathon"!
In a slightly different bit of news..this same friend also does a lot of computer work...and rebuilds computers in his spare time. We had two computers that crashed many moons ago...so we offered them to him. One of the two computers was the one that I had stored all of my photos on...up until it crashed last March...well...he called earlier today and let us know that he has recovered 4 GB of pictures!!!! I'm soooo excited...all the pics of my little girl...when she was a little girl...I will have back!!
My weekend is just going GREAT so far!!!!!!

Stamps and Smile #8

I'm actually very proud of myself here...I got the Stamps and Smiles sketch #8 done WAY in advance of when it NEEDS to be done by! WOOHOO! This is what happens when you come across some papers...some stamps...that truly inspire you! Basic Grey has completely outdone itself (IMHO) this season with it's paper lines! I used the Porcelain line here...and have quickly decided I MUST go back to the store soon and get more! So...I had great papers to use...a BEEE-U-TIFUL stamp set to play with PLUS...I had a sketch to work with that really challenged me! Here is the card I created:

What was incredibly challenging for me on this card...was the sizing...the measurements and the layering...it needed as precise as could be on the measurements, otherwise the card would look skewed in the WRONG direction! LOL! So this one took me awhile...couple of hours actually...but...I really enjoyed putting it together! When I first got it all put together...I thought about adding some birds that came with the stamp set I used...but I walked away for a few minutes and thought about it...and decided I was going to leave it alone. Sometimes one of the best "artistic" things you can do with something you have created is WALK AWAY from it...come back...and THEN decide what you want to do with it...our internal "edit" function so to speak!
Ya'll have a great weekend. I am 100% sure I will post again before it's over...BUT...I'm trying to get a lot of scrappin acomplished before Sunday afternoon...so...I'll be blog happy somewhere in between! HUGS!!!!!

Supplies:

  • Cardstock: American Crafts and Bazzil Basics

  • Paper: Basic Grey - Porcelain

  • Ink: Ranger Distress Ink - Peeled Paint

  • Stamp: Basic Grey - Aviary

  • Ribbon: from my stash

Embossing...

When I first started making cards...I had no CLUE about many techniques...no real idea what half the tools people had were for...and no real understanding of what I would ever want to do with any of those tools! After learning a bit here and there...I decided I wanted to try heat embossing...I had purchased a Cuttlebug some weeks prior and was in LOVE with the embossing folders. So I waited...until one day...I caught a peek at the Hobby Lobby ad...and rushed to the store to pick up a heat gun for about 50% off. I was thrilled...and still had no idea how to actually use it or what really to do with it! I purchased a slew of embossing powders...nothing to crazy color wise...pretty much clear, white, black, some random blue I don't think I have ever used, and a couple of glitter ones. My first attempts were quite HILARIOUS! I burned the powder...burned the paper...completely FAILED at melting the powder one time...not to mention the POUNDS of powder I'm sure I inhaled because I kept spilling it everywhere...or forgot to put the lid back on and turned on my heat gun and POOF!!! instant airborne cloud! Anyways...over time I eventually played enough that I got a general feeling of comfort with heat embossing...
Since those fateful days last fall...I have pretty much had that heat tool in my hand EVERY TIME I create! I LOVE embossing! I haven't really added that many powders to my collection (other than Distress Embossing Powders...more on that later tonight). I RARELY, if ever, use much beyond the clear and white...the glitter...I'm still not much more than an utter failure of EVER getting those to anything other than burn...
One of my favorite things to do with heat embossing is to emboss one image over another embossed image...gives a really nice layering...and you can "shadow" them...or give the impression of depth with one behind the other. Another fun thing to do is start out with a plain tag or card...emboss with white or clear...and then ink on top...the embossing resists the ink, you just wipe off your embossed image and it shows beautifully! I have some pics of stuff I have done with that and I'll try to show you some later.
Anyways...here is a recent card I created that was meant to highlight some embossing. It's the current card challenge over at If the shoe fits... (check it out if you haven't already). I wanted to play around and try something a little different. So I applied some Glimmer Mist directly to my Embossing Folder and then ran the paper through...thankfully the folder cleans up very easily! I was surprised with how it came out, and will probably use this technique again...gives your paper some nice color...and since it's Glimmer Mist...some nice shimmer as well.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock: American Crafts and Georgia Pacific
  • Paper: K&Co Que Sera Sera
  • Ink: Ranger Distress Inks - Walnut Stain and Spiced Marmalade
  • Sentiment: CTMH - Curly Sentiments
  • Tattered Angels: Glimmer Mist - Tiger Lily
  • Ribbon: Dashes, Dots and Checks (Michaels)
  • Flowers: Autumn Leaves Pretty Poppies
  • Cuttlebug: Script Embossing Folder

Stamps and Smiles Sketch #7

PHEW!!!! Finally got to it!! LOL! I was really worried I wouldn't get a chance to play with the girls at Stamps and smiles with their latest sketch...but after work today...I got home and inspiration struck! PLUS...I was going through my stamps last night desperately searching for a sentiment for a different card...and realized that I have SOOOO many stamp sets that I have NEVER used! So my goal is to use at least one of the "unused" sets once a week...and hopefully in the next few years...I'll get to them all!! LOL!!
Here is my take on sketch #7:

  • Stickles: Frosted Lace and Patina

Some days I'm just a lucky girl...

Honestly...there are some days that I just have to go...I'm really dang LUCKY! Long story short...on the work "bulletin board" someone posted a fairly new...rather nice (I guess...not my forte) lawn mower...DH showed up at my cubicle and was like...I want this...it was $50 and not a big deal (at least in my mind) and was like Ok...go for it...well...he went after work and got himself a really nice $180 lawn mower for $50.
Turns out the girl selling the lawn mower had just recently graduated college and was getting rid of a bunch of stuff before moving...she had been a Fine Arts minor...and was selling something that once DH saw it...was like...I have to buy that too...my wife would LOVE IT! AND HE WAS RIGHT!! Here is a close up of what he came home with:

Figure it out yet? It's a FULL SIZE EASEL!!!!! I was so shocked! A few months back I started randomly playing around with canvases for collage and stuff. I really like the painting part...rarely does something come out the way I INTEND for it to...but I do enjoy the process! Anyways...what I had been using to "hold" my canvases was essentially an old plastic file box...and it worked fine...but was a killer to my back...so about a month ago he picked me up a little Tabletop Easel...still haven't opened it...I'm wayyy too short on tabletop space!!!! LOL! Well...when he saw this easel tonight...full size, stand alone...adjusts for canvas size, height, and it tilts....he just KNEW it would be something I would really enjoy having!

So...at this point I'm like...how lucky am I...that while he finds a deal for himself...he randomly spots something very few people would think to look at...and says...my wife shall have that! But...it gets even better...I work out of a very nice sized room that was originally intended to be half office for him...half craft space for me...well...now the entire room is mine...and the computer in it. He purchased a computer for himself to use for office type stuff...and relocated to a completely different location in the house! AND NOW...he brings this easel home...I say...I have to rearrange the craft room to accomodate this...and he's like...well I figured we'd put it in the OTHER room...and you could paint in there!!!! I was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I cannot take him up on the offer...as much as I am DYING for it...but then I'd be occupying a corner of the guest room...and not that any guests we have would mind...but I'm really neurotic about people touching my stuff...or messing in my chaos! AND...I cannot honestly justify taking up TWO rooms!!! LOL! So...I have to say...I'm a REALLY lucky girl to be so blessed with such a thoughtful and truly UNDERSTANDING hubby!!!!

not exactly new...

Ok...much as I wanted to...being crafty just wasn't quite in the cards for me this weekend! I was incredibly worn out from things this weekend (still haven't watched BSG finale...massive sore point with me...but hey...it's life) that I really only got one thing done that I was WAYYYY overdue on...so I hope to get back to current things SOON...like TOMORROW!!!
I have decided to show you a few items I have done in the past year...for those of you that don't know me...I have not been this crafty for very long! LOL! This may will be a YEAR since I was INTRODUCED to stamping! It was INSTANT LOVE!!! LOL! I had previously dabbled in scrapbooking...but to no avail...I never really carried through with it...BUT...after my very very lovely BFF got me on the stamps...things have developed from there! Anyways...after all my babbling... a few of the things I created when I "first" got started last year!

I can honestly say...other than knowing that the majority of the products are Close To My Heart products...I can't tell you much about them! Other than I really enjoyed putting them together! When I first started making cards...to me the ultimate "happy" part about it was I liked what I had created...enough to photograph it! Heehee!

On a final note...for those of you that notice my playlist...it is tuned to BSG tracks...AND will remain there until I FINALLY get to watch the FINALE!!!! I'm honestly dying here!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!

HUGS!!!!!

Dang technology!

Ok...so we were all set...we had episodes recorded...we were going to be able to catch up and watch the BSG finale TODAY! Until we looked at the DVR last night and we found that just about every episode we recorded is GONE! There was a glitch on Friday when I was making sure the Finale was set to record...and apparently I changed the settings on the DVR and deleted a BUNCH of stuff! SO...now we are trying to figure out what we have to do to catch up on the episodes we missed. We are hoping to find them online or we will just break down and buy them from itunes or something.
On a different note...I keep hoping to have an opportunity to get scrappy this weekend...after all...it's Sunday, there will be a race on...and that's just what I do! However...we still have company in town and aren't exactly sure when they are leaving...so...come heck or high water...i will create today!!!

Saturday, March 21, 2009

SHHHH! Don't tell me what happened!

Ok...didn't quite get to watch the finale of BSG last night! We have company and it was one of those things the company was not interested in...so we are in a holding pattern at my house! LOL! Trying not to catch any entertainment news so that I can't find out what happened before I watch it!
On a more scrappy note...I'll be back to the craft table tomorrow! This rather hectic week will be done! I ended up taking the entire week off from scrapping to focus on things going on at home and with our visitors! I can't wait to get creative again!

Friday, March 20, 2009

Oh FRAK!!!

Wow...how have I managed to NOT comment on this so far this week...ok...so I may be a scrapper...but I'm also a HUGEHUGEHUGE fan of Battlestar Galactica, which ends it's AMAZING run of 4 seasons TONIGHT! I may cry! seriously! I loved this show back when the first series started when I was a kid...it was incredibly campy, and fun...and just really enjoyable...then a few years back...I, quite by accident, caught the Battlestar mini-series which was on TV...and instantly became enamored of yet another wildly awesome ride of a SciFi show! As with many TV Series and Movie series (think Star Wars and Indy Jones)...it's quite often sad...and VERY HARD for me to watch the end...(still haven't watched the final episodes of Gilmore Girls...and the final season been sitting on my shelf since Black Friday)...I hate to say "goodbye" to the story...to the characters...much like it was really hard to read the final book of the Harry Potter series...as much as you WANT to know what happens...sometimes NOT KNOWING means the story just keeps going!
However...this is one finale I CANNOT miss! My husband and I have tried to catch up on this last season the past few nights (I'm at work...he's at home watching it...feeling jealous here!)...and we will record the final episode...but this is one that I can't risk catching a spoiler to after it airs tonight...so we WILL be watching it live!

Good chance I will blog on this more later...but if you have NEVER watched this show...give it a chance in repeats one day...the ties between this "fictional" other world...and our own modern day issues...is unbelievable...and will make you think!!!

Happy Friday!

Wow...it's been a hectic week! I have family visiting and it's been...shall we say...crazy? LOL! Anyways...here are a couple of projects posted this week over at If the shoe fits...

Round 3!

Ok...this challenge was to create a themed item...the theme being "rock n' roll". I got a great kit swap back a few weeks ago...and it was all punk/rock themed! This card was easy to put together because it all met the theme right off the bat!

I would love to be able to give you the list of supplies...but since I received it all from someone else...I'm not entirely sure!

Round 2 of my scrappy weekend!

This LO is part of a challenge at the online crop I'm participating in...the challenge was to scrap using something to do with imagination in your LO. For mine I dragged DH out of the garage to take a pic of me and our cutie pie kiddo and then I cropped one of them to be a close up of our eyes. The speech bubble says "Imagine life through the eyes of a CHILD!" My daughter helped me pick out the paper and I thought it fit perfectly!!!

Supplies:
Paper: K&Co - Cut n'paste
Cardstock: American Crafts
Cricut: Graphically SPeaking cartridge - speech bubble
Grungeboard Mixed Mini's
Broken China Crackle Paint
Glossy Accents
Stickles: Xmas Red, Yellow, Waterfall, Gunmetal, Diamond, Lime Green

Round 1!

Ok...so it's 11 at night on Friday and I've only just now gotten something done! LOL! too much time perusing the internet instead of creating!

I used the Thursday sketch from over at Stamps and Smiles...I love the sketch...but maybe should have planned out my card size a little better! I combined the sketch with a challenge I am doing in an online crop this weekend...the goal was to use GREEN! I didn't use as much as others...but I really loved these papers...and they had green in them! I figure it fits the sketch better than the color challenge! LOL!

Supplies:
Paper: Daisyd's
Cardstock: American Crafts
Ink: Ranger Distress Ink - Peeled Paint
Stickles: Distress Stickles in Peeled Paint
Flower: Prima
Brads from my stash

When work gets in the way...

AARGGGHHHH! Sometimes, as much as I love my day job...it gets in the way of my crafting!!! I teach...so there are days that I'm in front of a classroom for hours...and by the time i get home my legs are like rubber...and it's time to just hang out on the couch...other days i've been stuck at my desk for the day...and the body is stiff and unhappy with sitting...not to mention the eye strain from staring at a computer screen and teeny tiny writing and huge spreadsheets...AKKKKKK!!!
Anyways...hopefully I will get a chance to do some crafting tonight!!! There are a ton of fabu challenges out there that I can't wait to get going on!

Here are some:

Friend card challenge and monthly sketch challenge :

The kindness of friends...and random blog hoppers!

Ok...this is super cool...to me at least...but my very very very dear friend Tracey has awarded me a Best Blog Comments award! it's incredibly sweet of her...but in all honesty...it's hard NOT to say something nice about the things she has created!!! One of the greatest things about being in this crazy scrappin/crafting/artsy/stampin world...is that there is soooo much positive energy out there! I have yet to come across someone that has something negative to say about things people create! There is also a wealth of knowledge, information, teaching, constructive criticism...and I honestly mean that!
Now...my job is to now pass this fab award on to some other great people! I have met a few of these ladies personally...some I have met through other online groups, and some I have only seen when blog hopping! Go forth ladies...I hope you are able to stop by and claim this award...and keep on keeping on!!!

Tanisha - Life's Simple Pleasures

Janet - Laughing and Scrapping

Lissa - Papercraft Sublime

Angie - Muses of a Mom

And last...but certainly not least...the ladies at Stamps and smiles...who took the time to check out my take on the Thursday sketch challenge sketches...I don't know if you are the team at stamps and smiles, or just curious hoppers...but I appreciate the comments!

I also want to take this as an opportunity to "challenge" any of you to randomly leave a comment somewhere when you see something you like! Let the artist know that you enjoyed what they created!

Sketches and more...

Hello all! I hope everyone had a FANTASTIC weekend! I was lucky enough to not only have fabulous weather...but on Saturday I got to go to see billy joel and elton john for their face2face 2009 tour! What was even better...it was ladies night with me, my mom, my baby sister, and a friend! It was an absolutely amazing concert...and I can't wait to scrap it!!!

Well...real quick like...the March sketch is posted over at
If the shoe fits! Below is my interpretation of Miss Kristy's most excellent sketch! Check out what the other Design Team members did and the sketch itself over at the blog!

That's all for now...more to come tonight I'm sure! Didn't have much time to be scrappy over the weekend...so I'm going through withdrawal and hope to fix that tonight!!!

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Wow...what time is it???

I was really enjoying just some "play-time" tonight and decided to try out the Thursday Sketch Challenge at Stamps and Smiles. BTW...is that not a cute name???? I really loved the sketch, and I like my card...I argued with myself (hello...it's 1 am...it's allowed) on if it needed something "extra." I decided that I just really loved how the card looked as is...and there wasn't anything I could really add that would make me like it any more! I chose to emboss the flower image in white, and then embossed the statement in black on top of the white...gives it a slightly "broken" look. Anyways...here is my take on their sketch:

Products:
Stamped Images: Tim Holtz - Flights of Fancy (Stampers Anonymous)
Ink: Ranger Black Soot
Paper: CTMH
Extra: Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - swiss dots

Margarita Friday!!

The color challenge over at If the shoe fits is to use Lime and Orange...what a fresh color combination on this...our best weather day here in South Carolina yet! Really makes me feel like it is spring time! I used the SU Tart n' Tangy set from last summer...love this set! You can do so much with it! Inks used were Spiced Marmalade and Shabby Shutters; cuttlebug swiss dot embossing folder; sentiment from Inkadinkado...
I'm off for now to enjoy my own cocktail for the evening!

Random thoughts blog hopping

How freaking addictive is blog hopping! I start out wanting to check out one blog...and it turns into this avalanche of blogs...click on one...see something you like...it leads you to another blog...which leads you to another...and so on!
Anyways...it's margarita friday over at
If the shoe fits and I can't wait to get to work on the color challenge!

My first scrappy post!

So here it is...my very first LO that I ever completed that I felt truly represented who I am. I did this LO for a competition on CafeMom...the theme was "Me, Myself and I." I honestly see myself as a gypsy...i have traveled all over the world...and no matter how many times I think I'm happy settling down...or into one thing...I'm always subconciously reaching for something new and different! I got started in paper crafts last year...after pretty much a 9 year hiatus from scrapbooking. I didn't imagine myself doing scrapbooking again...but kinda fell into it based on some online groups I joined. I was for awhile primarily a cardmaker...it's all I wanted to do! And now...well...I try and do a little of everything!

A little about me...

I am an Operations Training Instructor by day at a power plant...and a paper-crafter (is that even a word?) by night. i am a member of the design/blog team for If the shoe fits...scrap it. I am new the blogging world...but so far it seems pretty fun!
This blog is really just another creative outlet for me. I was looking at other blogs for inspiration and was thinking why not give some of their challenges a try and go ahead and put it out there. Most of the time these days...you kinda have to have your own little corner of the blogosphere in order to really participate in some of these challenges!
I am not a technologically savvy person...I just try to have fun with what I know how to do...and learn a little bit at a time!
My goals for this blog are to be to share a bit about me...what i do...what i like...what i rant about...LOL! almost along the lines of a journal for me!

Hello

This is just a test post...expect more soon!
